Another advantage of building the “new house” is the fact that there would be no loud noise on drilling or concrete mixers and so on. For the footing are already in place. The whole of my new found excitement for the “run of the mail” task brought me face to face with a very true adage in the architectural world. Dig a little deeper and you will find gold you are at least approaching a task with an unbiased mind and the excitement of chase. Never get base—that is the time you slip up. The other exciting part of the job was the shape and area of the driveway. There were two main gates which mean that guests could sweep in one end from a main road and drive out the other end to another main road. Not very exciting perhaps! Except that the driveway users’ eyes would be drawn immediately to the walk way with its marble flooring.

Everything was on a curve—the walkway, the driveway—and now I needed one central point to which everyone’s eyes would be drawn. And the simple answer was a swimming pool. From the bedrooms and living rooms of both houses—the new and the old—the central attraction would be the pool. The clients would probably use it less than the birds would but, again, it would be centre point to the eyes to watch the swaps over the birds over the pool taking files and insects from the air. And if there were more bird baths and feeding tables then there would be more birds, more noise and more actions. Who knows, maybe there would be a brilliant blue kingfisher flashing through the nearby jungle and over the pool. Maybe the designer sounding lyrical, but this is because the designer can see the perfect picture of the white stone houses, the walkway, the curves, the marble, and the solitude. The designer was excited.
