NGO: More than 1.5 billion face masks will end up in the ocean
While the pandemic has helped heal reefs as the virus keeps many international borders closed to tourism, it is also having an unsurprising damaging effect on oceans.
NGO OceansAsia estimates more than 1.5 billion face masks will end up in the world's oceans this year. It is also adding to the burden of ocean clean-ups in addition to the use of single-use plastics significantly rising due to health and hygiene concerns.
