Decorating a lights house 2A short touch on the metal sensor plate surface turns the light on; another quick touch and it goes off. A prolonged touch on the plate gives the desired intensity of light, from dim to bright. As for globes, John of Majestic Industries at Brook-ville, NSW points out that it is the shape which determines the amount of light, not the wattage. Many people, he says, make the mistake of putting a strong wattage bulb in. say, a desk light, but as this is a direct light source, anything over 60 watts is far too much. In general, you should always use the type of globe recommended for the fitting; anything else is a waste of money.

A wall washer is the trade term lights that do just that: cast a soft wash of light down a area you want to be noticed. Here two semi-recessed ceiling wall washers are trained on the o arched niches to show off a collection of antique Chinese blue and white porcelain and other treasures to advantage. To emphasize a favorite painting (in this case, Bryan West-wood still life of a chair) B 70/1 lamp from the Majestic collection, concealed behind a pot plant, is used as an up lighter.
